Our profile

«Merimna» is a recognized Therapeutic Educational Centre.  It was founded in Patras, Greece, in 1969.

 

It is specialized in providing education, vocational training and psychosocial support to people, from the ages 5 years and over, with Intellectual Disabilities, Down Syndrome and Autism.

 

«Merimna’s» management is running by a 7-member board of council, appointed by the Municipality of Patras and the Charitable Institution, all of them providing their services without remuneration.

 

Since 1998, «Merimna» is certified by the National Certification Centre (Ε.Ο.Π.Π.Ε.Π.), as a centre specialized in Vocational Training for people with intellectual Disabilities. «Merimna» also implements European Vocational Training Programs for people with intellectual disabilities.

 

The provided services are: evaluation and diagnosis, psychosocial support, vocational training and rehabilitation, as well as family support. The centre runs support groups, and prevocational and vocational groups into many workshops (pottery/ceramics, horticultural, sewing, book binding, soap making, woodwork).

 

A guesthouse functions five days a week (Monday to Friday). Forty students of the Center have the opportunity to be hosted 24 hours a day. The guesthouse provides not only the main facilities, but also entertaining and educational programs.

 

A medico-pedagogical and psycho-educational service operates comprising by a child and adolescent psychiatrist, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, speech therapists, physiotherapists, trainers as well as technical specialties scientists implementing vocational training courses (agronomist, hand craft specialties etch.). The administrative department is responsible for financial and management issues. A total of 47 qualified employees are working in “Merimna”.

 

We have previous experience in the implementation of other European projects e.g. Horizon, EQUAL.
